Boat Safety Equipment Servicing

Your safety equipment, including liferafts, lifejackets, EPIRBs, and Jonbuoy MOBs, requires regular servicing to ensure full functionality in the event of an emergency. Our expert team provides thorough inspections and maintenance, giving you confidence that your equipment is ready when you need it most.

Reliable Maintenance for Your Critical Safety Gear

Nothing is more important at sea than knowing your yacht safety gear will function flawlessly in an emergency. Liferafts, lifejackets, EPIRBs (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons), PLBs (Personal Locator Beacons), and Jonbuoy man-overboard recovery systems are essential components of your yacht’s safety arsenal. To ensure they perform when you need them most, they require regular professional servicing carried out to manufacturer and international maritime standards.

Our Safety Equipment Servicing Includes:

Comprehensive Maintenance: We inspect, test, and maintain all types of marine safety equipment in line with SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) and ISAF/World Sailing Offshore Regulations. This includes hydrostatic release units (HRUs), inflation cylinders, survival equipment packs, and electronic signaling devices. Servicing intervals are strictly adhered to, ensuring continuous compliance and operational readiness.

Liferaft Servicing: Liferafts are opened in controlled workshops, inspected for fabric integrity, inflation system function, and emergency pack contents (flares, rations, water, sea anchors, repair kits). We pressure-test seams, replace time-expired consumables, and repack the raft under vacuum to guarantee rapid deployment.

Lifejacket Servicing: Each lifejacket is inspected for bladder integrity, automatic inflator cartridges, firing mechanisms, lights, and reflective tapes. CO₂ cylinders are weighed and replaced where necessary, and all straps, buckles, and harness systems are checked for wear and compliance with ISO 12402 standards.

EPIRB & PLB Testing: We conduct beacon self-tests, battery replacement, and ensure programming is correctly registered with national authorities. Antennas and hydrostatic release mechanisms are tested to confirm correct activation and signal transmission capability to Cospas-Sarsat satellite systems.

Jonbuoy & MOB Systems: Jonbuoy units, dan buoys, and horseshoe buoys are serviced for buoyancy material integrity, automatic inflation, lights, and securing lines. We ensure quick deployment functionality in line with offshore racing and cruising safety requirements.

Convenient Collection & Delivery: To minimize disruption, we arrange the collection of safety gear directly from your yacht, coordinate professional servicing with certified partners, and return the fully certified equipment onboard. Every item is supplied with updated service tags, certificates, and documentation.

Service Intervals & Regulations

Regular servicing is not only good practice but also a requirement under international maritime safety regulations. Our workshop follows manufacturer-specific schedules as well as global standards to guarantee your equipment is always compliant and operational:

  • Liferafts: SOLAS-approved liferafts must undergo servicing every 12 months at an authorized station. For ISO liferafts used on pleasure craft, intervals of up to 36 months may apply depending on manufacturer, but annual inspections are strongly recommended. Every service includes fabric pressure tests, inflation cylinder checks, and replacement of perishable emergency pack items.
  • Lifejackets: Annual servicing is advised for all automatic lifejackets equipped with inflation cartridges and firing mechanisms. Some manufacturers specify shorter intervals of 6 months for intensive use or commercial operation. Compliance with ISO 12402 is verified at each inspection.
  • EPIRBs & PLBs: Battery replacement intervals range from 4 to 6 years, depending on the beacon model and manufacturer specifications. Hydrostatic release units (HRUs) must be replaced every 2 years. Functional tests are performed annually to verify transmission capability to the Cospas-Sarsat satellite network.
  • Jonbuoy & MOB Systems: Typically serviced every 12 to 24 months, including checks of buoyancy tubes, inflation systems, and light units. Repacking is performed to ensure rapid deployment.
  • Fire Extinguishers & Pyrotechnics: Although not always included in the owner’s checklist, we advise synchronized inspections of fire extinguishers and signal flares, as both have expiry dates and must comply with SOLAS/ISO standards.

By adhering to these intervals and regulations, your safety equipment remains fully certified and legally compliant, ensuring maximum reliability when it matters most.

Documentation & Certification

Servicing alone is not sufficient – proper documentation and certification are mandatory to prove compliance with international standards. We ensure that all serviced equipment is accompanied by valid certificates and easily verifiable records.

  • Service Tags & Labels: After each service, equipment such as liferafts and lifejackets is fitted with new service labels indicating the date of inspection, due date for the next service, and workshop ID.
  • Inspection Reports: A detailed protocol documents the condition, findings, and work performed on each unit. This includes pressure test results, part replacements, and functional test logs.
  • Certificates of Conformity: All serviced equipment is supplied with certificates that confirm compliance with SOLAS, ISO 12402, MED (Marine Equipment Directive), or national regulations where applicable.
  • Digital Records: We maintain digital copies of all certificates and inspection reports. This allows yacht owners, captains, or surveyors to access documentation quickly for audits, insurance claims, or port authority inspections.
  • Integration with Surveys: When required, we coordinate with classification societies or marine surveyors to ensure that servicing records form part of the official vessel documentation.

This structured documentation ensures transparency, provides proof of compliance, and avoids costly delays or penalties during safety inspections, regattas, or commercial charter operations.

Integration into Safety Management Systems (SMS)

For commercial yachts and vessels operating under the International Safety Management (ISM) Code, safety equipment servicing must be fully documented and integrated into the vessel’s Safety Management System. We provide structured reporting and certification that can be seamlessly embedded into your onboard SMS framework.

  • Planned Maintenance System (PMS): Service intervals and inspection dates are scheduled in advance and integrated into your vessel’s PMS software, ensuring proactive compliance.
  • Service Records in ISM Format: All inspection and service reports are provided in ISM-compliant templates, including traceable serial numbers and technician IDs.
  • Audit-Ready Documentation: Certificates and logs are formatted for quick presentation during flag state or port state control inspections.
  • Cross-Referencing with Safety Drills: Records of lifejacket, liferaft, and EPIRB servicing can be linked to onboard safety drills, creating a closed safety loop in the SMS.
  • Fleet Management Solutions: For operators with multiple yachts, we offer centralized digital tracking of all safety equipment certificates across the fleet, ensuring no lapses in compliance.

By embedding our service records and certifications directly into your Safety Management System, we provide not only technical assurance but also organizational compliance, supporting safe operations and smooth audits for both private and commercial vessels.
